Little Forest Equestrian does not currently have access to a full size riding arena. However, we do have a 60ft round pen and 5 acres of land to roam around on. We offer multiple types of private horseback riding lessons. Our beginner riders are only allowed to ride inside the round pen. Once a rider has proven that they have a steady seat and adequate steering, they may be permitted to ride in the yard around obstacles. Here at Little Forest, we do not focus on a specific discipline. We teach the basics of horseback riding.
Little Forest Equestrian is aware that each rider learns at a different pace, so each horseback riding lesson we teach is tailored to the rider's needs. We have Western saddles, an English saddle, and bareback pads for the rider's choice. Helmets are optional for adults but required for those under the age of 18. Please come ready to ride, wearing pants and close toed shoes.
Each rider's first lesson at Little Forest Equestrian will consist of signing a waiver, meeting the riding instructor and horses, and completing our riding assessment. This assessment will show us your horsemanship level and help us plan what your future riding lessons will look like. We will catch, groom, and tack up your horse together. Then we will practice some groundwork and start riding!
*A riding assessment is required for each rider that signs up to ride with Little Forest Equestrian
This one hour lesson consists of catching, grooming, and tacking the horse that you ride. Then we will mount up inside the round pen and begin learning how to communicate with your horse from the saddle. We teach horsemanship practices that value a relationship with your horse not submission over them. We believe that regardless of the discipline or style of riding being participated in, a positive relationship with your horse is at the center of it all.
During this lesson we will see what riding outside of the round pen can look like. We will start by mounting the horse in the round pen. Then, we will work towards specified goals to enhance your riding skills. Because of the shorter duration, riders will be asked to show up early to start tacking up their horses. Rider's may not mount their horse before the instructor arrives. *This lesson is recommended for intermediate riders only.
This 30 minute lesson is for experienced riders who have a specific goal in mind for their ride. Whether you are looking to try something new, work on a specific struggle, or practice something that you already know, this type of lesson will allow you to do those things. They are instructor taught but student led. *We recommend arriving 20 minutes early to tack up and warm up your horse
*Riding Lessons are not available to book online. Please fill out our contact form to get your horseback riding lessons scheduled!
